Here is a transcript of the audio tape obtained by the National Enquirer of Dog the Bounty Hunter ordering his son Tucker to break up with his girlfriend who is black. Dog, who has 13 children total by 4 wives and other assorted baby mamas, doesn't feature Tucker in his popular show. Tucker was recently released from prison where he was serving 20 years on drug charges.
Duane "Dog" Chapman: I don't care if she's a Mexican, a whore or whatever. It's not because she's black, it's because we use the word ni**er sometimes here. I'm not gonna take a chance ever in life of losing everything I've worked for for 30 years because some fucking ni**er heard us say ni**er and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine. Our career is over! I'm not taking that chance at all! Never in life! Never! Never! If Lyssa [Dog's daughter] was dating a ni**er, we would all say 'fuck you!' And you know that. I knew that he wasn't only a hypocritical, drug-abusing pervert, but also a racist!! This man has NOTHING but blonde females around him. At least one of his sons (Leland) is obviously of a mixed race, but you wouldn't think it by looking at this show. He treats all of "his suspects" that are dark-skinned with a lot less compassion than he does the rest. (Although I think they get off easy, considering the stuff he tries to preach to them is obviously garbage and meant for the camera). The show is laughable and I'm sure that A&E was probably looking for a reason to cancel it. He had so much backlash from saying he would serve time for Paris Hilton it was ridiculous!
I thought the show was a train wreck, and I enjoyed watching them THINK that they were an average family when obviously they had a LOT of issues ... most stemming from his crazy ass!
I would like to say that I'm a 34yr old black woman and I always watch dog shows and I thought he was a real human being the way he pretends to be such a good person looking out for the people that he picks up but now I realize that all of that was just an act. I am truly disappointed in dogs behavior and I really doubt that I'll ever watch his show again. He is totally racial and he was definitely speaking words of hatred for black people. This is really a shocker!!!

Call me crazy but I didn't get racist out of his conversation, nor did it seem like a rant.
He mentions that someone was trying to record him (the girlfriend) and because he uses the n-word at his place of business he didn't want the alledged trouble making black girlfriend around the office trying to get him caught up.

I agree with Bird... I'm done believing that white people don't use the word or will ever stop. The question is, how does it make you (black people) feel when you find out they use it? Personally it just shows me how ignorant and unevolved that particular person is, and from that point I know how to deal with them. I have always watched his show. I'm not suprised though. He treated the darker Hawaiin folk worse than the lighter ones. I bet the people he "captured" are getting a good laugh now. I heard he was still on crack. Wouldn't doubt that either. What I don't understand is why when a white person says the N word, they are a racist.......but when a black person does it, it's ok. I think this has been blown WAY out of perportion. People use words and comments everyday that someone else may take as a slurr. I think that people need to stop living the past and accept that the word will NEVER stop being used. It is used by all races and even Black people call each other by the word. They say "hey Ni**er" and they say "He/She is my Ni**er" everyday, white people use the term in the same way immulating the way Black people speak. People use slurrs everyday and most of the time because it is something you grew up hearing and it never seemed shameful you repet it meaning the same thing you heard it used as rather than how someone else may take it such as have you ever said or heard the term "to jew someone" meaning to see if you can get a better price, well I heard and still hear it used and never thought twice about it untill someone made a commment and told where it origated from. People use terms and never think about the effect it may have on their career or the way someone sees them, I don't think he ment anyone any harm he was just trying to tell his son what people were trying to get him on tape saying and ruin his whole family. I don't hear where he called anyone by the name just saying he did not like people trying to get him calling someone the name. This is the biggest bunch of BullSh*t I have heard in a long time and if A&E stop his show I will change my subscription on Dishnetwork and no longer watch the channel. The focus should be on finding out who broke the law by taping a privte conversation, there are laws against such things you know. Anytime you read or hear something like this you can not know what the person was thinking or feeling at the time and therefor should NEVER judge a book by its cover. I mean Dog and Beth use "crack head" and "meth head" and no one thinks twice about it. No one thinks of how it makes someone who had the problem and beat it feels, it makes them feel useless and like they will never be able to put it behind them because everywhere they turn someone is calling someone a "crack head" as a so called joke or people say "what have you been smoking" when they hear something they think is dumb or what not, it could be taken as offencive as well. Never mind that people use the term "Indian Giver" all the time for when someone who gives someone something and then takes it back, what the H*ll? All I can say is "can't we all just get along", this is such crap. I am not at all condoning what "Dog" did or said! What I am saying is that I think we are all to quick to judge someone in a weak moment! It is never okay to call someone a derogatory name....but he has done some wonderful things for the community and has dedicated his life to helping people who have transgressions like he and a lot of us have! All I am saying is a lot of people say and do the same thing, they just don't have a recording of it end up on the cover of a HUGE magazine for everyone to judge and rub their faces in it!

Wow! This whole Billary Clinton rant came out of no where! So, does that now mean you'd voted for George Bush in the '00 elections? I'm just curious. I hope you're not offended by my question. I do agree with you though...I would never vote for Hillary Clinton. As a matter of fact, I am going to make sure I vote this year to ensure she doesn't become the next President of the US. Even if you put Billary's untruthfulness aside, people must truly examine their own feelings about what this couple stands for. We as Black folks tend to just go along with what people we consider our leaders say all the time. We have a Black woman in the President's Cabinet and I don't feel she gets respect from her own people. If the George Bush had croaked on that pretzel, and Dick Cheney died of his long awaited heart attact, if the Speaker of the house, and some other person died; Condeleeza Rice would be President of the US (she's 4th in line for the presidency). It's sad that our culture has been watered down to the point where a private conversation between a father and son can be used as a barometer for someone's entire character. The use of the N-word does not on its surface make you a racist. If it did, then every rapper on the planet would be a racist.
The double standard on the word is ridiculous and insulting to the basic concept of free speech. When did everyone forget the "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me" mantra that we were all taught as children.
It seems obvious from the actual text of the conversation that Chapman uses the word in his vocabulary on a daily basis but doesn't necessarily mean it in a derogatory manner. I personally don't use the word in my vocabulary mainly because it congers up a stereotypical image with a stigma attached to it. But, being told that I can't use it because it is anti-social is insulting to me. I consider it a curse word in the same category as all other curse words that I choose to not use in my vocabulary. But, that being said, we live a country where free speech is a protected right.

On a daily basis I hear the word used dozens of times in my neighborhood by African Americans. I am a fan of rap music and every rap CD I've listened to in the last 5 years has the word on it multiple times. But nearly every condescending commenter on this blog has pointed to the use of the word alone as a reason for concern. I would wager my entire salary that not one person who has commented on this blog has ever complained about Kanye West, 50 cent, Diddy, Dre, Ice Cube, or any other musician who uses the word in their music specifically referring to other African Americans. Even whiter than white Eminem gets a pass on the word because he's accepted as a member of the hip hop community and embraced by the CEO of N**** based rap, Dr. Dre.
At some point, won't some level headed group please stand up and remove the stigma attached to this word that gives it its power. It is so annoying that over and over again this rerun scandal keeps popping up. Aren't any of us living in the real world?

I fully agree that every person should be allowed to have his/her own viewpoint. If he/she speaks derogatively about another race, in private, it's none of our business. However--"Dog" Chapman doesn't present himself as just your average joe--he has long talked about himself as someone to be looked up to as a role model and an example of how to rise above your circumstances in life through the strength of your character and will, and the presence of God in your life. As such, he set himself up to live as a role model and example for others to follow, and he has a responsibility to live by the creed he preaches. Otherwise, he's a hypocrite and a liar--and that, I think, is what is so disappointing in him. I'd respect a man who admits that he has struggled with personal feelings of racial prejudice and is trying to overcome them more than a man who pretends he has no feelings of racial prejudice in order to further his own ends.

What he makes perfectly clear is that he cannot risk having Black people in his place of work, because of what they might hear in the way of racial slurs (because he is not going to handle the task of eliminating use of the n-word from his work place). Thus, what is necessarily true is that he would never Hire a Black person, because that Black person would obviously present a greater risk, being around all the time. So, it is clear indeed that he must discriminate against Black people.

The point is not that there isn't a WET, or a united caucasion college fund, or any of that crap. Perhaps in a 1000 years or so when people have forgotten the origins but at this moment no. I could say in my opinion, green should mean body surfing, but until I get people to really mean it, it won't. In 2007 and probably for the remainder of the 21st century, it will be an insult used against a specific group of people.

Well, you should read up more on the science, fiercest architect, then you will be aware that skin color is quite superficial and yes we want to propagate our own genes but having the same skin color DOESN'T make 2 people genetically similar. As there are even many white people in the US who have more African genes than others who appear quite African. And our genes are attracted to genes that are NOT TOO SIMILAR as that increases the chance of interbreeding.

I personally do not use the word except for in sarcastic jokes making fun of people who say it out of ignorance and for the purpose of downing someone else. I grew up in a trailer with my single mom whom did not recieve child support. My brother and I slept on the floor and were sometime awaken by mice running across us. I am a child of God, and if I was to take things said about me or a group that I might be catagorized as part of and hold on to them and make them mine then I would probably end exactly what was said about me. I will gladly agree that genetically speaking, skin color is a pretty minor detail. However even you must realize that since DNA isn't quite visible to the naked eye people, and since we have no sixth “sense the genes” sense, people (perhaps especially primitive man) had to base their opinions on what they could see. (People often fail to conceive because they are genetically too similar or too diverse, and humans still tend to favor mates and friends with what THE EYE perceives to be genetically the most viable pick, reaching beyond race, and continuing into facial symmetry, height, weight and so on) While I can see your point, your comments have absolutely no relevance to anything I said. Perhaps if our ancient ancestors had some way of knowing about DNA, and how similar we all really are, we wouldn’t be in this mess today - Too bad you weren't there.

Speaking of ignorance... I am reading a lot of racist and ignorant comments in this blog. The whole thing is rediculous and way over sensationalized. His son is pathetic and opportunistic for exposing a private conversation in this manner. The world his much more important things to worry about than what one man said in "confidence" to his son.
Two wrongs do not make a right. The sooner the black community can uplift themselves and ignore situations like this the sooner we can all get along and live as one. When I hear them chanted like adjectives to describe black men and women in rap songs it makes me sad and confused. I know…I served time in Federal Prison for my choices. “Dog” used the “N” word in a manner that is likely natural for him and in an emotional way that would suit his educational background and lifestyle. The difference – he is in the media light. Every Choice Has A Consequence – and one can’t use background, education, or any other excuse to justify their choice and the resultant consequence. Good publicity is the kind that is sensational, grabs peoples attention, makes them emotional one way or another to an issue. The kind that everyone talks about.
It should also have a solid story such as.
Bigot father, betrayed, sold out by his son for disagreeing on the sons racially diverce girlfriend.
Bigot father makes outragous slurs against the girl, it goes public through the son, exposing the bigot father for the whole world to see.
The father is on the brink of loosing everything because of the negative exposure.
The son feels betrayed by the father for hating the woman he loves.
Bigot father sees the error of his ways and repents to his son and the entire world. He's on his knees
a beaten man begging for forgivness.
Father is humbled, his life becomes more through this experience, he progresses as a human being for it. The world forgives him and takes him back despite his faults because we all have faults.

The word 'Nigger' is not really offensive to me (and that's probably because I'm white) but it is offensive to many black people for reasons that we all understand.
The thing with this tape is that it was a PRIVATE conversation between a father and a son (who incidently was NOT offended by the N word and never objected to it's use during the conversation) so who was dog supposed to have offended?
I don't know if dog is racist, but this tape does not prove that he is, and I don't think he is. I believe he uses the N word like millions of other people. (both black and white) Some use it as slang and others use it as a derogatory term, and to be honest many people do use it without even thinking about it's deeper meaning let's get real.
He was also sensitive to the fact that it would be offensive to many black people, and did NOT want anybody who would be offended to hear him talk that way.
Maybe if we want to get rid of racism we need to start thinking about each other as PEOPLE, not us and them.

I wish we could have an end to all of this racism nonsense. There are racist people out there, and they come from ALL backgrounds/races, and their racism is towards people from all different races.
The use of a word in private between two people who were not offended by it, does not make someone racist!
It does make for one hell of a story though, and I'm afraid all sections of America seem to really want to buy into it!
What dog said does NOT make him a racist.
The word 'Nigger' is not really offensive to me (and that's probably because I'm white) but it is offensive to many black people for reasons that we all understand.
The thing with this tape is that it was a PRIVATE conversation between a father and a son (who incidently was NOT offended by the N word and never objected to it's use during the conversation) so who was dog supposed to have offended?
I don't know if dog is racist, but this tape does not prove that he is, and I don't think he is. I believe he uses the N word like millions of other people. (both black and white) Some use it as slang and others use it as a derogatory term, and to be honest many people do use it without even thinking about it's deeper meaning let's get real.
He was also sensitive to the fact that it would be offensive to many black people, and did NOT want anybody who would be offended to hear him talk that way.
Maybe if we want to get rid of racism we need to start thinking about each other as PEOPLE, not us and them.
It amazes me the amount of outcry there is over this recording, and also similar incidents. What I never understand is why is it ok to have rap songs and films full of the N word as long as a black person says it? This seems racist to me! It's saying we are a seperate group of people to you, and there are different rules for you and us, which is the definition of discrimination. I want to say that I do understand how awful a word this is, but I'm afraid that it is used commonly in everyday language by many people, as are many offensive words.

I can't even begin to believe that Dog of all people would say something so foul and so ignorant. To come out of your mouth and say a word that is controversial is completely thoughtless. If he says that he doesn’t want to lose everything then watch what you say DUMBASS!!! Dog you have completely and totally lost my respect. You want to say that you believe in God, what do you think God thought when he heard you say that?

The n word is not a pretty word, but it means different things for different people and does not have to be degrading.
