T.I.'s bond denied; next hearing scheduled for next Friday

Rapper T.I.'s request to be released on bond was denied today by U.S. Magistrate judge Alan Baverman. T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, Jr., was also arraigned on federal gun charges today where he entered a plea of not guilty, as was expected.
The judge was ready to release T.I. under house arrest (as I reported) but T.I. and his attorneys did not meet the specific conditions of bond release today, which included a $3.7 million cash and property bond, a private alarm monitoring company with an employee of the alarm company living on the property, Tiny can be the only adult living on the property (in addition to T.I., the adult monitor and T.I.'s children) and T.I. must submit to twice weekly drug testing.
The next hearing is scheduled for next Friday. If T.I. and his attorneys meet these requirements, T.I. will be released under house arrest with very strict conditions.
T.I. was arrested Saturday in a federal sting after attempting to take possession of machine guns and silencers from his bodyguard in a shopping center parking lot.
Dressed in a black suit with his legs shackled, T.I. entered the courtroom through a side door and briefly made eye contact with loved ones and friends before taking a seat in front of his family.
The Grammy-winning rapper appeared alert, confident and well-rested as he conversed quietly with his dream team of attorneys at the defense table. The courtroom on the 19th floor was packed with family, media and supporters including movers and shakers in the industry such as Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles, Michael Mauldin and Young Jeezy.
Many thanks to SOHH Gyant for the scoop from the courtroom!

Wow. This is crazy. But at least it looks like the man will get a taste of freedom next week. While living in your own house is much better than prison, the loss of freedom is a hard pill to swallow not matter how lavish your surroundings. And that will be a far cry from the prison cell that I have no doubt awaits him.
WHoooppppiii that is all too funny to me how in the world the King of the south "u want to know what i'm making just imagine a lot" didnt meet those requirements something in the pot aint clean.
oh well another one bites the dust we will see you around in a couple of decades pimpin!!!!
Stay up. T.I., I guess u gotta watch the company you keep.
Yea this is federal, not to messed with serious, Money cannot save your ass type stuff.
i am sure this is shocking to many of the baller but its the facts man...
Federal is no joke.
I feel for his kids, they will never forget this period of time.
I probably would've taken that deal but, hopefully they'll be able to negotiate something less, who knows. That's a nice picture of him on this post.
I am so disgusted.. TI needs R. Kelly's lawyers, bcuz this is some horses*h*i*t*!
Wait a minute. Why the hell was Young Jeezy there? His posse just got in trouble earlier this year for drugs and all kinds of heavy charges. If I were Kevin or Lyor or whoever is in charge of the talent, I would've told him to stay home. Not a good look.
When they let him out NEXT friday, what will be the conditions for the house arrest? Will it be like Mike Vick's?
Okay I'm trying not to be a fan here and just look at the legal aspects....3.7 million bail is OUTTA CONTROL for someone who wouldn't be considered a flight risk??? And I would argue not a threat to society but I'm sure some would disagree...I need to go pull out my crim law books bc I've obviously been the employment law & education side for too long if that's the norm now...WOW!
What was he thinking about? The AJC is saying that he had a half a pound too. Damn, damn, damn TIP
Damn, the Feds are not playing around w/ TI...
"$3.7 million cash and property bond, a private alarm monitoring company with an employee of the alarm company living on the property"...
Assuming TI smoked a lil something the day of his arrest, that will surely result in his test being "positive". How the hell does that work?!
I wonder when they'll let him work?! The man has a family and a legal defense team to pay for. If R Kelly can still tour after pissing on teenage chicks, hopefully they won't go so hard on TI. I guess that's not an equal comparison and Kells charges aren't federal, but his case has been going on way 2 long!
TI stay your a$$ out of trouble.
And he couldn't meet those conditions because why? TI like jail, don't he?
That is good for him I don’t have any empathy or sympathy for him had that been any average person hell our bond hearing wouldn’t be until 2010 so he is getting everything that he deserves. The legal system needs to show T.I. or maybe T.I.P. just how they work and let it in the words of ALfamega "HURT"
I don't know what to say. Someone of the caucasian persuasion could be a mass murder, and not have this much bond. Did TI kill anyone? Uh, no, he just had some pretty serious firearms, and other charges, but since he's got previous felonies, they're going to put the screws to him. Meanwhile, the country as a whole continues to further fall into decline because of a few clowns running the show, and lining their pockets, where are their charges for war crimes?

I wondered about that and I was surprised he couldn't raise the 3.7 million. I know it's no small change but they all in the videos talking about how rich they are. The cars and the cribs. I mean.....what's a measely 3.7 right?

CHILD! Now you know every rapper and wanna be rapper has a studio in their crib. They didn't say people couldn't come and go, they just said he can't go. TI should put the bond up and do what he needs to do. Or stay locked up.
SOHH is reporting that a federal agent will be living there NOT someone from the alarm company...there will also be a FULL sweep (for the hidden safe and any contraband) on his property...Based on what I've read on SR and SOHH, TI will be on house arrest week.
I am really upset with this. I believe TI's lawyers went above and beyond trying to set very strict guidelines for their client and the judge still wants more. IT WAS ALL GOOD JUST A WEEK AGO That's what keeps playing in my head when I think of TI. This time last week his life was completely different. I know is was because of his own alleged bad judgement but still this man does more for his community than anyone and never asks for press coverage when he is giving things to children of need here in Atlanta. I know the charges aren't the same but how can R. Kelly videotape himself doing lewd things to a child and be out allowed to tour and live his life and TI (who just maybe had an infatuation with weapons) is being hit with some of the most strict house arrest terms i've ever heard!?!?!? I just don't get it. FREE TI and keep him and Tiny, their family and the entire GRAND HUSTLE FAMILY close to your hearts and in your prayers during this time!!!!! ~Razzi
@ Law Diva 1908,
I'm with you, it looks like a violation of the eighth ammendment to me.
Also, everyone's assuming he didn't have the money but that may not have been the case. Didn't he have some people living in the house?
I'm SURE it wasn't the money that was a problem for T.I.
It's the adult monitor and making sure no one has access to the crib but T.I. and Tiny and the kids THAT has to be set-up before he can meet all of the requirements the FEDS are setting
And I agree about the Cash Bond being ridiculous... $3.7 million
Is T.I. considered a Violent Felon because of his past criminal arrests ???
I know sometimes it seems like celebrities get preferential treatment regarding sentencing vs your regular Jane or John Doe but, sometimes their bonds and/or fines are out of this world. (sp)
I think he should do some time. I like TI, saw him in concert when he came to the Philips in atl, however, your a seven time felon, get caught with an arsenal and drugs: Simply asking for it.
In addition, in the late nineties the feds suffered many loss cases based on small errors or technicalities, so they have revised their procedures to only try cases in which they can prove beyond a resonable doubt.
Things do not look good for clifford :(
The part about his legs being shackled hurt a little but oh well. This is what he chose and these are the consequences.
The cash bond is $2.2 million. The rest is equity in his homes and other property. Remember he has that $3 million mansion in Jonesboro that he hasn't fully moved into yet.
They just need all that extra money on hand to fund the Brian Nichols case for the rest of this year so he can keep going to court and his lawyers can keep getting paid hundreds of dollars and hour when his @ss just needs to be put to death. I'm sure TI has the money and if he doesn't have it, did yall read the people willing to sign signature bonds for him!?!?!?!
What about if all these faithful T.I. Fans would put up some money for the bond? They all running around screaming "Free T.I.". Won't they put their money where their mouth is at. 20,000 Fans put up $100 that will be 2 mill right there. I guess they ain't that much of a fan
@ Seattle slim
Right I mean that just lets you know all that fronting gets you no where then you were in the mags saying how you spend ½ a mil on clothes and you mean to tell me that you cant bond your own azz out of jail not a friend or a brother or a cousin but this is for yourself…
@razzi....
LOL. Yes, they have to find some way to pay for Nicholas' trial. He's been sitting in jail for what...2 years!?! Ridiculous
I just read the AFFIDAVIT and I'm all for being positive, but it doesnt look good for the man
Like Money Mike said on the Hip Hop Awards, "TI need to stop fighting with TIP" and realize the Police/Feds are watching and listeing. It's real in the field. I hope everything works out for him and his family. Hold your head TI.
A private alarm monitoring company with an employee of the alarm company living on the property & T.I. must submit to twice weekly drug testing.

I, notice the keyword I, believe that TI did not agree with the terms, not because the money wasn't there. But because of the other terms of the agreement. Don't get me wrong though, I believe that some rappers *not only rappers* front about their money; or people assume because of the material things they see them with in videos or mags, that they have more money then what they really have. (sp)
He made his own bed and should lie in it. That being said, I still feel sorry for him.
Lyor Cohen came out? no wonder they had to find a bigger court room at the last minute with big hitters like that coming through. Glad to see he has support, he needs it at a time like this. Hopefully he learns the lesson he needs to learn from this, I don't see him escaping from this though.
Well I guess I am late getting here but I have read all the comments and all I have to say is that R. Kelly is in Chicago and T.I. is in Atlanta.
R. Kelly wasn't caught wih his pants down (literally), while T.I. was caught in the parking lot (thanks to a snitch) with some unregistered guns.
We are in a world that the bigger we ware...the less you trust people.
T.I. will be free on house arrest and he will continue to support his family...he just now have to realize that Clifford comes before T.I. AND T.I.P.!!!
Stay strong honey and keep GOD on your mind:)!!!
Also, Sandra nice picture you used for the posting!!!
i don't feel sorry for his ass. there are people who would literally KILL to be in his position, the power, the money, the fame?
and he pisses it all away? he gets what he deserves. a felon is a felon no matter what race or class you are.
my husband and i work damn hard to provide for our family. we aren't rich, we aren't criminals, we aren't famous.
so TI gets no sympathy from me and thank GOD i never let my kids listen to his crap.

The ATF was kind this time. they have been known to kill before asking questions and that was to white folks. They don't care.
Yes, Tiny made it to the courthouse. I forgot to add that in my post.
Wow, first the fall of the man that was Mike Vick and now this. I will never understand why we idolize "man". When fans put celebrities on pedestals, it gives them very little wiggle room before they fall! Come on People.....
Thanks for the info. I have never heard of strict conditions. That is amazing. I pray for the family and that his ability to maintain his household is preserved.
Who cares? He's an arse, he had so many privileges and was financially secure and yet he still wanted to maintain the street mentality. Do I care? Certainly not, this is totally not about black or white this is about right or wrong, we seriously need to wake up and stop trying to make excuses for all these entertainers, athletes etc. who screw up, because seriously they know the consequences but they all think it cant happen to them. T.I is an idiot, he claims to be so street, yet he trusted someone with so much who he allegedly only knew for a few months, he used no wisdom. Get a grip people, if you or your family members were in his predicament he wouldnt give a shit. All this praying to God business is total bs, the only time you want to bring up God when something goes wrong, I dont hear him or any other rapper bigging up God unless they win an award or going to jail, pure hypocrisy. I honestly could care less, I am too old and smart to put any of these losers on a pedestal, whether he was ratted out or not, the fact remains that he was illegally purchasing weapons and his arse should definitely go to jail. Throw away the bloody key for all I care, teach his silly arse a lesson.
And oh yeah, I totally agree with Irene, Arsha and AllHoney915.

To answer this, I heard a young lady, on the Ryan Cameron Show (V-103), state that she made it into the courtroom with 9 other fans and that the judge is basically/also holding him accountable for previous charges from '97 up to '04. That involved missing court appearances, warrants and other (possibly drugs) charges within Fulton Co., Henry Co., Douglas County, and Florida.....It sounded as if the judge had a heart from what the fan describe, but as they stated, his attorney defense wasn't great enough to give him a bond...... At least his legal team got a good feedback of there defense, but hopefully, they will come back stronger on the next go round, and hopefully, he will be a free man while awaiting for trial. And the also stated,LOL, TI made eye contact with her, she winked, he blew a KISS, and she KNEW he remembered her...HILLARIOUS!!!!
I've been holding back because I truly have mixed feelings about TIP's arrest and charges. What bothers me mostly is that Tiny is about 5 years older than Tip and as a woman/fiancee/mother/baby mother should have steered him away from wrong doing. Maybe she tried, we don't know, but what in the HELL are you doing in the truck. So to me she obviously had knowledge of the situation. Tiny being Tip's backbone seemingly condoned the bullshit. Hell I'll be damned if you jeopardize both of our freedom. Regardless her ass should have been home instead of always following him around like a puppy. Fabolous couldn't have said it better: "But "everything I am, she's my improve".

Exactly but, they never make the bonds to that extreme for regular people. My thing is, you have sooo many people on black and white blogs (that I read) that are always saying all these celebs should get treated the same way a regular 9-5er does, when it comes to sentencing *which I agree*. With that being said, if we wanted them to be treated the same way we are, should they have to pay those outrageous bonds, that are not giving to us? I just think they should do both at the same time for celebs but, I doubt it will ever happen. I wasn't saying they should get lower bonds like regular 9-5ers but get lesser sentencing because they are celebs; treat us equal when it comes to giving out bonds and sentencing. *Wishful thinking, this is America, I doubt that will ever happen*. _____________________
But I can see where you are coming from though!!! So either way it's whatever, hell I'm not a celeb so they wont be giving me a high bond nor am I going to knowingly committ a crime so they wont be giving me more time either.(sp) =)
yea i feel what you were saying agtpie, but anyone with money is above the law. If you can buy your way out of it you straight. LOL it dont matter what you do just make sure the government get their cut.
I truly hope that TI and his family come out of this strong. The following are the words of ones of Africa's greatest musician, Lucky Dube(RIP):
Somebody told me about it
When I was still a little boy
He said to me, crime does not pay
He said to me, education is the key, yeah
As a little boy I thought I know
What I was doing, yeah man
But today here I am in jail
Chorus:
I' m a prisoner (x3)
I looked all around me
But to see nothing
but four grey walls staring at me
the policeman said to me, son
They won' t build no schools anymore
All they' ll build will be prison, prison (x3)
'cos today, yeah
Chorus:
I am a prisoner (x2) I' m a prisoner
Dear lord
I asked the policeman and said
How much must I pay for my freedom?
He said to me, son
They won' t build no schools anymore
They won' t build no hospitals (x2)
All they' ll build will be prison, prison (x4)
I know this is late (from last week but I'm just getting back to the site):
1st: Yall are funny if you think the delay from TI's camp was in putting up the bond...lol. One thing you all don't seem to be getting is that, TI's camp proposed this outrageous bond set up - so getting it obviously isn't an issue...
The other is that the bond wasn't denied (I realize that's the heading of this post), this was a hearing, the decision was postponed until next week so that the judge could ponder his decision a little longer...I'm down with the entertainment sites (obviously) but you've gotta read real newspapers as well
allhoney915 - putting celebrities on a pedastool is one thing ... but expecting them to be law abiding citizens is something different. if people are buying his records to support him, his family and his lifestyle i dont think its unfair to expect him to STAY OUT OF JAIL!
as far as the bail comments. i agree with lawdiva ... and the rest of you are missing on simple fact. even if his bail was high, SO WHAT! sure any normal person wouldnt have a bail that hi, but any NORMAL person with a felony caught doing something illegal WOULDNT EVEN GET A BOND! they wouldnt even have a chance to get out. PERIOD!
i hope he stays in jail. if my neighbor was a felon and he was caught buying a collecting guns illegally i WOULD HOPE the judge wouldnt EVER let him out.
but thats me. maybe you guys like law breaking criminals roaming the streets. but i dont.
