I have no idea who this girl is other than she was a contestant once on America's Next top Model. People are either outraged, humored, concerned or don't care what Adrianne had to say about race relations in America on her Myspace blog. Normally I don't post obvious publicity stunts, but if I don't post this you guys are going to keep emailing me about it.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the fuck on. Do we hear the Jews crying that they were made slaves for thousands of years? Do we hear them whine that they should OWN the pyramids in Egypt because THEY broke their backs making them? Wow! I get what she was trying to say but when are non-Black people going to realize that their perception is skewed because they're not Black... it's easy to see it as having a month especially for Black people (which in itself is a cruel joke) and a tv channel MARKETED towards Black people (yet another cruel joke) instead of seeing why people thought it was necessary for these things to exist in the first place. And then to say let's just all be one.. Like that's not what the majority of Americans want anyway...
As for her ban of BET, I think we should all join her on that one... I'm black and I feel like I'm cheating on my intelligence by watching. I miss the old BET... Let's start a petition to bring back Video LP and Teen Summit...

I know what she is trying to say but her logic isn't as black and white as she thinks..she'll never understand a minority because she isn't one..she doesn't understand that's it's a little more complexed than it's "everyones history" The most general statement i can make about black history month is that we have it simply because without it you would NOT know the accomplishments of African Americans..that is the primary reason and to a very clueless individual who possibly thinks the world is flat, it makes absolutely no sense to argue the point.

I just want to say that as a white person I just wish some of us would just shut up and not speak on topics that are inflammatory to others especially when it isnt our experience. As a white woman I will never know a black woman's experience. What we can share is the basic human experience as well as being women. After I watched Voices from the Underground on HBO, i didnt blame blacks for hating whites I would too but I cannot change the color of the skin that I was born into either.

adrian, please pick up a few history books and come again. she definitely is entitled to her opinion, but damn, atleast have an informed opinion. so many white people think that minority advancement systems are put in place because blacks were slaves. it's sad that they don't see that being given a certain name at birth can get you passed over from an interview even if qualified sometimes. it's sad that some companies wouldn't even hire blacks if they weren't forced to. show me an asian, jew, hispanic or indian who has had as many problems as blacks getting ahead.

I couldn't read past the boycotting of Black History Month and BET because her logics seemed ignorant. First and foremost, every culture has a specific date or dates in which they pay homage to the greats, leaders, and pioneers before them. In my honest opinion, that's the premise of Black History Month.
Now on the Boycott of BET: Her reasoning is because there should not be 'one channel for only one race of people'. BET is not for one race of people. It's objective since the beginning was to air videos and programs that appealed to African Americans. Growing up I've seen Teena Marie and Sheena Easton, to name a few all over that channel. Clearly BET can't be for one race of people. If BET should be boycotted it should be for the tasteless low budget programming they subject its viewers to, and the fact that they air Baby Boy, Friday and Soul Plane damn near every weekend.
Simply a case of people paying more attention to the messenger rather than the message. Although I do not agree with her take on Black History Month (you can read my comments on page 1), I do agree that BET needs to be abolished. No other program on even tv (that includes COPS lol) does more to diminish the image of black Americans throughout the world. This isn’t our parents’ BET with Video Soul and BET News. For those who still do not know, it is owned by Viacom now. So it’s Black Entertainment Television as bought to you by corporate honchos who care about advertising dollars, not your image.

I just had a look at this girl's blog and it's pretty obvious to me that she is a racist despite her statements to the contrary. She's one of these new age racists who really think they are not racist because they think all people are equal. That's if I take her at her word. Her type thinks that black people are paranoid and not discriminated against at all.

Maybe ol' girl should do a little more research. I under stand her point, about singling out the races and yadda yadda, but we are not the only ones that have our own month. Asian pacific Islanders have a month, too. Okay it's really only a week, but we started with a week, too. You gotta start somewhere. And, as far as TV stations we were not given BET. First off this b*tch doesn't even have a high school diploma. She was literally TRAILER TRASH before she went onto ANTM.
She goes on to say something about why it being a "special" scholarship for being black, and she knows some Asians, Latinos, etc ect that could use those scholarships too. This is the same attitude that was presented when the first started abolishing slavery. The gov created a Freedmans Law, which was basically like a welfare system to help freed slaves get on their feet. Well the white folks came along and said, that since slavery was stopped because we're all suppose to be treated equal, then it's not fair to have the Freedmans Law. And of course it was abolished as well.
What this dumb b*itch doesn't realize is that Asian and Latin people CHOSE to be in the US. African Americans didn't have a CHOICE!!!
What this b*itch needs to think about are the thousands of our ancestors who were murdered in cold blood just for being f*cking black. So when we have BLACK HISTORY MONTH that's a time where the entire country should be remembering that shit. Afterall it was her people that were doing the killing.
Lastly, they do have special scholarship funds for all kinds of things. There are some for WOMEN only, minorities, based on your GPA, all kinds.

I don't even watch BET but, I know this heifer can't be serious, we have TVONE and BET. For people who have directv (satellite) they know that in the cheapest channel package, there are at least 100 different channels and you never see any black movies on them. So just because it's not literally called, "WET" doesn't mean that they don't have stations that only play white movies.
IMO regarding black history month, I'm with 2bme, hello without it children who go to school nowadays would definitely not know our contributions *with the exception, they were taught from home, but white kids were taught their history at school* hell even for the kids that attend school, in the the month of Feb. black history may only be mentioned 2 days, if that. Hell they got 11 mths, there are just not labeled.

Well, at least Ms. Curry is reasonably clean in her commentary and it is open to the public. Unfortunately, I saw A LOT OF HATE-ON-BLACK-FOLKS blogs and they were none too pretty. All of which contain tid-bits openly seasoned with the "N" word and a number of which were marked private--cowards I suppose.
Since I became a permanent resident here I have taken a sincere interest in African-American studies on a multitude of levels because I did not (and still do not) understand the mentality of people that look(ed) like me, in a country with so much opportunity, allowing digression since the civil rights era.
From emancipation to the civil rights era many African Americans succeeded and prospered in many areas that were self-sufficient within their own communities. They knew WHO they were dealing with and were quite happy to provide for their own--proudly! However, since the civil rights era it seems that the African American family infrastructure has been undermined by a system fed by greed and immediate gratification.
While I believe it is intirinsically important to be aware of your history, your lineage, your achievements and your accomplishments it is far more important to continue being forward thinking, set new milestones and encourage awareness from the grassroots level.
Yes, Ms. Curry generated a yawn on my behalf; however, she maybe one of the many folks that spark some interest towards change in the way "we" currently look at things.
I cannot stress to you all enough how much hate is out there towards a strong and beautiful race with roots in a historically RICH continent! The key is to continue to educate yourselves, and the generations to come, in effective and strategic ways to massage the system for the greater good of all.
