The Word is Out
The word has been out about Queen Latifah and her longtime companion/trainer Jeanette Jenkins. Their relationship is not exactly Hollywood's best kept secret. Jeanette, who has a DVD out called "The Hollywood Trainer", recently accompanied Latifah to the New York City premiere of "Hairspray" where she was accosted on the red carpet by Sister2sister's Jamie Foster Brown.
"Do you have a boyfriend?," asked a serious Jamie. "I’m in a relationship. I have been for a long time," Jeanette stammered before beating a hasty retreat down the red carpet. Why is it so important that our artists publicly acknowledge their gay or lesbian status? Are they obligated to come out because there aren't enough gay/lesbian role model images in the media?
Or does our need to know amount to a right to know because these are public figures? Personally, I don't care if a known lesbian or gay artist tells us to mind our own business. But doesn't it complicate matters when a Queen Latifah says she is "looking for a good brotha", or a Tyler Perry claims he is "searching for a good woman", yet you never see them in the company of the opposite sex?

You make a good point. I don't care one way or the other. I have always loved Latifah...she's such a good role model, a good artist, an incredible woman. Tyler Perry is admirable, as well.
I don't give a rat's butt who a celebrity is sleeping with. Just entertain me and keep it moving!!!!
Now if you are a Pastor, Politician, “Christian” or some other moral (community) Leader, then that is a different story.

I don't see the big deal if she is gay or not. I have always like the Queen. Maybe celebs feel if they come out they will not be accepted or their careers will suffer.
I don't give a rats ass what goes on in a person bed room or their sexual preference. They don't pay my mortgage!
Who cares?... We all know Queen is lesbo, she is dating her training because Queen ain't lost nobody's weight, as a matter of fact she gaining weight because she in-love, and that's what love makes you do. If you don't believe me then ask yourself how come she wants to invest in Fat Burger because she in-love ain't nothing wrong with being in-love and loving the same sex to each's own. Tyler Perry I dont know about him but I love Madea though I know Madea is gay because I know a woman better not try to push up on Madea she take her gun out and go POW POW!

Sandra I agree..I don't care! I just don't like the masquerade of I'm looking for the opposite when clearly you are not.
But all you have to do is put two and two together. Buying up "Fat Burgers" isn't being a public advocate of health. And Queen never calls Jeannette her best friend. So why else is this woman in the picture. Like Charmaine said!
Tyler Perry has that Luther Vandross thing about him. Before he blew up and he would come out onstage after the shows and all the women would just start screaming. He would look good, but then he would talk and it was his mannerisms that would just turn me off. Its all in the wrist, lol! But he was raised by women which can be a death nail for a young boy with no male role models.

I want to know why we must always assume that a person is heterosexual. Who cares if they aren't? I am proud to be hetero, but if I were gay, I wouldn't be living in denial. Maybe it is different for public figures, but imagine what impact they would have on the gay community to still be doing their thing, but OUT...

i dont care who they sleep with, really. isn't it funny how we'll throw stones at isaiah washington for saying what he said, but in the next breath, we're making a mockery of a celebrity for being gay? like ah ha ah ha you're gay, you're gay. i dont get it.
i dont live in denial, i just dont broadcast it. assuming everyone's hetero is a good way of putting it. i dont try to assume every guy is gay, but i know a good number of them are at least bi. man are they bi.

Black folk are so dishonest! If Queen Latifah or any other black star came out as gay, it would be over. We would not support them as a community. I keep reading all these comments "I don't care who they sleep with." Bull! If you didn't care it would not be a story to read about! The majority of the info posted on black blogs is stuff about who is gay or not or who is dating white or not. That's the fun of gossip, so let's stop being fake and pretending that the black community is accepting of gays or inter-racial couples, it's not.

As a proud African-American Lesbian I am very much concerned to why stars feel the need to hide who they are. When you hide who you are, you project to ignorant straight people that it is ok to be gay and hide it. "The Queen" who i see at the clubs in New York better jump her gummi bear behind out the closet. So many black woman who happen to be active lesbians are always hiding i.e. Alicia Keys, MC Lyte, Missy, Eva the Diva, Angela Bassett,Oprah, Tyra and of course the recently caught out there lesbian EVE.
State who you are and be proud about it, you can still get that money regardless!!!!!!

This just goes back to the old ways of blacks sweeping things under the rug;everything had to be on the hush. If a girl got pregnant, she had to disappear to some relative down South and came back emptyhanded...smh. I "fornicated" at age 20 and got pregnant, but I carried my big ol' belly all up and thru the sanctified church because that baby was a part of me. I view homosexuality the same way. People may argue if its right or wrong, but if its a part of you, it shouldn't be hidden.
if she is or she isn't , who really cares? it's her business. all i care about is her doing what she is paid to do. her personal life is of no concern to me . queen is doing big and positive things .
She should have said, "None of your business."
I respect actors who just try to keep it professional with the press.
